The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines environmental justice as “the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies” (US EPA, 2015). The environmental justice conflict is not just centered in the United States. Other countries around the world are also facing issues similar to those in this country. Although, there are two different sides to this issue. While the environmental justice dispute is present all around the world, the conditions are different due to the imbalances between developed and underdeveloped countries. The effects of this can vary when low-income communities in developed and underdeveloped countries are exposed.

The main goal of this campaign is to educate the public about how serious the environmental racism issue is. The campaign has been spread throughout my domain website, which has a description of the issue of environmental, solutions for the problem, and sources for the public (links to websites that provide information on environmental justice.

The specific audience chosen for this campaign is college students. I chose this audience because compared to other ages, they have the highest level of education and more awareness of social awareness issues. College students should be aware of low-income communities and undeveloped areas facing environmental racism issues. Another reason why I chose this audience is that I was briefly introduced to environmental racism in my Environmental Health course. This course was required for the Public Health major, so I chose this topic because it combines both Public Health and Sustainability topics.

In order to effectively communicate the environmental racism issue, I wanted to use a PowerPoint presentation as a resource guide. As college students, we educate ourselves by using PowerPoint presentations almost every day. So, if the targeted audience is college students, then the best way to educate them is to create a well-detailed presentation. Briefly, this presentation will include an introduction to the problem, how communities are affected, examples of affected communities, images of the communities mentioned, and possible solutions to the problem. This will be a typical presentation with bullet points, but there will be a good amount of information on each slide.

This presentation can possibly be used by a professor, so the PDF of the Google Slides presentation will be posted under the ‘Campaign for Change’ menu. The speaker notes (for anyone who could potentially use this presentation) will be on the ‘Campaign for Change: Resource Guide” for reference.
